IVCA Announces Recipients of the 2017 IVCA Awards

IVCA is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2017 IVCA Awards who will be honored at this year's dinner on December 4th.

The Stanley C. Golder Award, which honors an individual who has made profound and lasting contributions to the private equity industry in Illinois, will be awarded to John A. Hatherly, Wynnchurch Capital.

Mr. Hatherly founded Wynnchurch Capital in 1999 where he serves as the Managing Partner.  Today, Wynnchurch Capital manages over $2.3 billion of private equity commitments.  Prior to founding Wynnchurch, Mr. Hatherly enjoyed a twelve year career as a senior executive at GE Capital's Merchant Banking Group. Before GE Capital, Mr. Hatherly spent three years in banking with the First National Bank of Chicago and BankOne.
Mr. Hatherly has been involved in more than 250 investments totaling over $17 billion including acquisitions, buyouts, recapitalizations, project financings and leveraged leases.
Serves on the Board of Directors of Groupe Moreau, Ironform Holdings, Surepoint Holdings, WC Foss, Stampede Meats and Indiana Limestone.  In addition, he serves on the University of Notre Dame’s Student Athlete Advisory Council, and the University of Wisconsin’s Business School Innovation Council.

The Richard J. Daley Award, which recognizes a single individual who has given direct and extraordinary support to the State of Illinois by participating in or begin an advocate for the venture capital and private equity industry will be awarded to Howard A. Tullman, 1871.

Howard A. Tullman is the CEO of 1871 – where digital startups get their start and the General Managing Partner of G2T3V, LLC and of Chicago High Tech Investment Partners. He is a member of Mayor Emanuel’s Chicago NEXT and Cultural Affairs Councils; the Innovate Illinois Advisory and Arts Councils; a member of President Preckwinkle’s New Media Council; an Adjunct Professor at Kellogg; and an advisor to many start-ups. He is the former Chairman and CEO of Tribeca Flashpoint College and Kendall College. He is the Chairman of the Endowment Committee of Anshe Emet Synagogue, an Advisory Board member of HighTower Advisors and Imerman Angels and a regular guest lecturer at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Mr. Tullman also serves as a Director of Vehcon and SnapSheet and served as a long-time Director and Board Chairman of The Cobalt Group, a Trustee of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the New York Academy of Art, and the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University, and as the lead Director (and briefly Chairman) of The Princeton Review. Over the last 48 years, he has successfully founded more than a dozen high-tech companies.

Mr. Tullman is a graduate with Honors of Northwestern University (B.A., 1967) and of its School of Law (J.D., 1970), where he also graduated with Honors, was elected to the Order of the Coif, and served as the Chairman of the Editors of the Law Review. Mr. Tullman was admitted to the Bar in 1970 and, on special petition, to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court in 1974. He practiced in Chicago for 10 years, specializing in Federal litigation, and served by appointment as a Special Master for class action litigation in the Southern District of New York.

The IVCA Portfolio Company of the Year Award (venture capital-backed) will be awarded to Naurex Inc.

Naurex Inc., is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing transformative therapies for challenging disorders of the central nervous system, including depression.  In August 2015, Naurex was acquired by global pharmaceutical company Allergan.

The IVCA Portfolio Company of the Year Award (private equity-backed) will be awarded to Kronos Foods.

Kronos Foods is a highly differentiated manufacturer of Mediterranean and other premium foods, with distribution nationwide through foodservice channels and major retailers, including broadline and specialty distributors, club stores, mass merchants, and grocery chains. Its products include gyros meat, pita/flatbreads, hummus, sauces, and desserts, primarily under the Kronos brand.
